Visualizing Emancipation is a compelling resource for teaching the end of slavery. Here you’ll find resources for using the site. We especially encourage college instructors and upper-level high school teachers to contact us about designing assignments around primary sources that students can upload and map through our site. In addition, we have lesson plans geared toward K-12 classrooms, events that teachers and students may find of particular interest, and coming soon, video tutorials and explanations.

Lesson Plans

These lesson plans ask students to use primary sources to understand the end of slavery. They are keyed to the Common Core Standards and the Virginia Standards of Learning.
